March 20 is the International Day of La Francophonie

On March 20 the International Day of La Francophonie is celebrated around the world, commemorating the signing of the Niamey Convention which took place on March 20, 1970. The convention gave rise to the Cultural and Technical Cooperation Agency which was the precursor to the modern International Organization of La Francophonie.
On this day we celebrate the French language and Canada's rich French heritage and culture. We are also reminded to embrace the core values of peace, democracy and respect for human rights.
