Nurses, Health-Care Professionals at Hospice Vaughan Vote to Join ONA

December 11, 2023

VAUGHAN, ON., December 11, 2023 – Registered nurses (RNs), registered practical nurses (RPNs) and personal support workers (PSWs) working to provide high-quality care to those at Hospice Vaughan voted overwhelmingly to join the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA).

“This is the second group of care providers at a hospice to vote to join ONA in the past two weeks,” notes ONA President Erin Ariss, RN. “These specialized workers care deeply about their patients and have voted in favour of receiving the many benefits that come with being part of Canada’s largest nurses’ union. We are thrilled to represent them and look forward to working alongside them to achieve the respect they so deserve.”

Ariss says that along with so many other nurses and health-care professionals, the new Hospice Vaughan ONA members are deeply concerned about having a say in working conditions and are looking for improvements in wages and job security.

“I am delighted that they have joined with ONA’s 68,000 members to use their collective voices to improve their working conditions – and especially to improving their ability to provide the best care possible. We welcome them and look forward to supporting them.”

ONA is the union representing 68,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals, as well as 18,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
