Front-line nurse practitioners, registered nurses, registered practical nurses, personal support workers, and guest attendants are fighting for care not profit. They are negotiating a new contract with their employers that includes staffing ratios and equal wages with hospital nurses. Nursing homes bargaining is coming up in April! But bargaining doesn’t just happen at the table. It will also take every one of you in participating nursing homes standing together, showing you are committed to making changes on the issues you care about, to win on your bargaining demands.

Phone and Email Zap – April 23
Over 150 ONA registered nurses, NPs, RPNs, PSWs and guest attendants and community members took to the phone lines to demand for-profit nursing home CEOs invest in resident care by prioritizing staff-to-resident ratios!
Together, we made over 180 calls and sent almost 600 emails in just 30 minutes to for-profit nursing home CEOS and MPPs! It’s the only way to ensure residents get safe, timely, appropriate care they need and deserve NOW.

On April 12, ONA members and allies will joined all-out information pickets in communities across the province. These pickets will showed our unified voice and commitment to achieving a fair deal for nurses and health-care professionals that prioritizes #CareNotProfit.
Sticker Up March 20-21!
On March 20 and 21, nurses & health-care professionals in for-profit nursing homes across Ontario wore stickers to send a clear message to the corporations who own the homes, demanding they invest in staffing ratios & wage parity.
Sticker Ups help us show a unified front, start discussions and and build momentum and support in our communities, as we escalate into bigger collective actions like pickets.

When is bargaining?
Bargaining between your elected Nursing Homes Provincial Negotiating Team (NHPNT) and the employer representatives will take place April 15-19.
If we are unable to resolve the issues at bargaining, we will attempt to mediate any outstanding issues. Mediation will take place on May 1 and 2.
Should we not settle at mediation, we will proceed to arbitration before Arbitrator John Stout on June 26.
