Registered nurses, health-care professionals at Margaret Bahen Hospice Vote to Join ONA

August 7, 2024

NEWMARKET, ON., August 7, 2024 – Registered nurses, registered practical nurses and personal support workers with Margaret Bahen Hospice have voted overwhelmingly in favour of joining the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA).

“This is the third group of care providers at a hospice to vote to join ONA in the past short while,” notes ONA President Erin Ariss, RN. “These specialized workers care deeply about their patients and have voted in favour of receiving the many benefits that come with being part of Canada’s largest nurses’ union. We are thrilled to represent them and look forward to working alongside them to achieve the respect they so deserve. I am pleased to welcome the nurses and health-care professionals from Margaret Bahen Hospice to our union.”

The health-care professionals are seeking better transparency as well as wage equity and improved job security, so that they can focus on providing high-quality care.

“ONA prides itself in supporting our members as they find their collective power in union membership,” she says.

ONA is the union representing 68,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals, as well as more than 18,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics, and industry.
