Nurses, Health-Care Professionals at Matthews House Hospice Vote to Join ONA

June 19, 2025

ALLISTON, ON., June 19, 2025 – Registered nurses (RNs), registered practical nurses (RPNs) and personal support workers (PSWs) working to provide high-quality care to the residents of Matthews House Hospice voted to join the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA).

“Specialized hospice nurses and health-care professionals are dedicated to proving the best care to their residents,” says ONA Provincial President Erin Ariss, RN. “While they care for others, they too deserve fairness, respect, fair compensation and transparency from their employer. We are proud to represent them and look forward to working alongside them to achieve the respect they so deserve.”

“This is the fourth hospice that has organized and voted to join ONA,” notes Ariss. “I am inspired by their decision to join with ONA’s 68,000 members to use their collective voice to improve working conditions – and especially to improve their ability to provide the best care possible. We welcome them and look forward to supporting them.”

ONA is the union representing 68,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals, as well as 18,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
