| Your Workplace | Professional Practice | Workload Improvements

The goal of the Professional Responsibility and Workload process is a resolution that ensures ONA members can meet their practice standards and provide safe and quality care.

When member concerns are not adequately addressed by employers, many collective agreements provide the option to advance those concerns to the formal stage of an Independent Assessment Committee (IAC) hearing.

This is a last resort and extreme measure to settle issues that cannot be resolved. A panel of nursing experts will hear about members’ concerns and make recommendations to address them.

Results and Improvements

IAC recommendations will address areas of concern, including staffing/skill mix, infection control, processes/policies/procedures, professional development and more.

We developed an infographic to highlight recent successes resolving workload and practice issues through the IAC process. Almost all the recommendations from these IACs have been implemented.
