PARRY SOUND, August 27, 2025 – Registered Nurses (RNs) working for Lakeland Long Term Care have unanimously voted to join the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA), the union representing more than 68,000 nurses and health-care professionals, as well as 18,000 nursing student affiliates.
“I am proud to welcome the RNs from Lakeland Long Term Care to our union and our movement,” says ONA Provincial President Erin Ariss, RN. “We are united with RNs working in long-term care who are demanding respect from their employers.”
Residents of long-term care homes increasingly require care on par with that delivered in hospitals, as more and more residents increasingly live with a number of complex medical conditions.
“The RNs are seeking fairness from their employer, including improvements to understaffing and compensation,” she adds. “As ONA members, they join a powerful grassroots movement and have access to support and expertise that will fuel their fight for better working conditions — so they can provide the best resident care possible.”
ONA is the union representing more than 68,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals as well as 18,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in hospitals, long-term care, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
