Human Rights and Equity Caucus

Every year, the Ontario Nurses’ Association holds a Human Rights and Equity Caucus. It is an opportunity for members to come together to focus on education and to create an awareness of the human rights and equity issues occurring in their workplaces and communities.

Members can hope to find support in any of the six equity-seeking groups, as they challenge discriminatory practices within the health-care system. These groups are:

• Francophone members
• Indigenous members
• 2SLGBTQI members
• Members living with disabilities
• Racialized members
• Ally members

ONA members from these groups meet in smaller caucuses to share stories, identify common issues, provide support, and share strategies that will assist them in their places of work.

The Caucus also provides an opportunity for members who are allies and friends in the fight against discrimination to show support and solidarity for their colleagues, to share their insights, and to take part in the solutions.

Caucus Subsidies

A limited number of subsidies are available to ONA members with entitlements who belong to one of the equity groups, including Allies.

Subsidy applications for the 2025 Human Rights and Equity Summit are now open. Forms must be submitted by June 27, 2025. You will receive a response by July 11, 2025, whether you are awarded a subsidy or not.

The 2025 Human Rights and Equity Summit will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the Sheraton Centre Toronto.
