TORONTO, ON, July 3, 2026 – Registered nurses and registered practical nurses working to provide high-quality primary care to patients at Unison Health and Community Services have voted overwhelmingly to join the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA).
“Unison Health and Community Services nurses are dedicated to providing their patients with the best care possible. In voting for ONA, they are joining their Nurse Practitioner (NP) colleagues who also voted to strengthen the power of their advocacy by joining Canada’s largest nurses’ union. We warmly welcome them to ONA and look forward to working with them to fight for the respect they deserve,” notes ONA Provincial President Erin Ariss, RN.
Ariss says that Unison Health and Community Services nurses have concerns regarding wages, workload and the need for clear processes in their workplace.
“By joining with ONA’s more than 68,000 members, Unison nurses will have the support to raise their collective voices to improve their working conditions, especially with regard to the ability to provide the best care possible. We welcome them and look forward to supporting them in their fight,” Ariss says.
ONA is the union representing 68,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals, as well as 18,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
