Every year, ONA celebrates National Occupational Therapy (OT) Month throughout October.
This is a time to recognize the important work occupational therapists do in helping Canadians overcome physical, mental and cognitive barriers. With the help of OTs, Canadians can participate fully in the activities that mean most to them.
Occupational therapists help solve problems that interfere with a person’s ability to do everyday things like:
- Self-care – getting dressed, eating and moving around the house.
- Being productive – going to work or school and participating in the community.
- Leisure activities – sports, gardening and social activities.

The World Federation of Occupational Therapists recently launched a monthly podcast, The Global Thread, where the global occupational therapy community comes together to explore the people, ideas, innovations, and experiences shaping the profession. This is your opportunity to hear voices from across the profession and around the world.
We are proud to represent occupational therapists in several of our Bargaining Units. They are a vital part of the health-care team, working alongside nurses, physiotherapists and others, to ensure the best quality of life for patients and clients.
