Post-Campaign Update

After being on strike for 13 weeks, more than 40 primary care workers at North York Family Health Team secured a first collective agreement with a wage increase, ratified by 84 per cent of the membership.

Together with their allies, the NYFHT team:

  • Called and emailed the employer and provincial government more than 2,300 times
  • Were featured in the news 19 times
  • Picketed outside the offices of Premier Doug Ford, Minister of Health Sylvia Jones, Dr. Jane Philpott, MPP Stan Cho, MPP
  • Met with MPPs from all parties
  • Sent a delegation to Queen’s Park and attended Queen’s Park

The members are grateful to community members, patients, physicians, elected officials and allies across the province who showed solidarity and put pressure on their employer to negotiate a fair deal.

The members are eager to return to work but will continue the fight for better funding and accountability for team-based primary care to ensure fair wages for workers and high-quality care for patients.

Media Release: Primary Care Workers at North York Family Health Team Ratify New Agreement After 13-Week Strike

Support workers at the North York Family Health Team!

Primary care workers at North York Family Health Team (NYFHT) are on strike, fighting for their first-ever collective agreement so that they can continue providing the care our community needs. They provide comprehensive care for 95,000+ patients at all stages of life, from mental and physical health to chronic disease management.

The employer received additional government funding earlier this year meant for retention and recruitment but is using it to make up for their own financial mismanagement.

Tell the NYFHT Board of Directors to redirect those funds to fair wages and settle a fair collective agreement!
