OWEN SOUND, ON, November 6, 2026 – Registered nurses, registered practical nurses and personal support workers from Grey Bruce Hospice have overwhelmingly voted to join the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA).
“Each of Grey Bruce Hospice’s 34 hospice nurses and PSWs provide specialized care to these vulnerable patients and their families,” said ONA Provincial President Erin Ariss, RN. “Despite the extraordinary work of hospice staff, they are concerned about their employer and the threat of staff terminations, a lack of transparency and the need for protection for those who are on the front lines.”
Ariss notes that this is the sixth hospice care facility since 2023 that has joined with ONA, strengthening the power of their advocacy by joining Canada’s largest nurses’ union. “We warmly welcome them to ONA and look forward to working with them to fight for the respect they deserve,” she said.
“By joining with ONA’s more than 68,000 members, Grey Bruce Hospice nurses and PSWs nurses will have the support to raise their collective voices to improve their working conditions, especially with regard to the ability to provide the best care possible.”
ONA is the union representing 68,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals, as well as 18,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
