Hundreds of Nurses, Health-Care Professionals Hold Vigil for Violence Survivors

TORONTO, ON, November 4, 2025 – Hundreds of nurses and health-care professionals from across the province are holding a vigil at the Nathan Phillips Square to commemorate and honour the lives of those impacted by violence. They are pushing for the implementation of safe staffing levels to help protect health-care workers, as part of a new campaign.

TORONTO, ON, November 3, 2025 –More than 1,000 nurses, health-care professionals and leaders are gathering in Toronto from November 4 to 6 for the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) Biennial Convention, under the theme I am ONA. Over the course of this week, they will debate, vote and conduct official business, and reflect on the dramatic changes the last two years have brought for their union and health-care system.

New report shows 7,200 nurses could be cut in Ontario due to underfunding, on the heels of 13 layoffs announced in North Bay

TORONTO, ON, October 28, 2025 – A sobering new report from Ontario’s Financial Accountability Office (FAO) released last week reveals that if the Ford government fails to improve health-care funding, 7,263 nurses could be cut by 2027-28, further worsening Ontario’s number of nurses per capita.

ONA will Join the First National Council on Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

TORONTO, ON, October 27, 2025 – ONA is announcing that it will sit on the country’s first national council on nurse-to-patient ratios. The council is being formed by the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU) amidst ongoing and widespread nursing shortages and high levels of nurse turnover, particularly among younger nurses.
