Registered Nurses from Queensway Long-Term Care Home Vote to Join ONA

HENSALL, ON, September 9, 2026 – Registered nurses (RNs) providing care to residents of Queensway Long-Term Care Home have unanimously voted to join nurses and health-care professionals across the province in using their collective voice to improve their working conditions and care for all Ontarians by becoming the newest members of the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA).

Ontario Hospitals Cut 215 RN Positions, Raising Safety Concerns

Toronto, ON, September 3, 2026 — The Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) is raising serious safety concerns about more than 215 registered nurse (RN) positions cut across Ontario hospitals in the past two months alone. This is part of an escalating trend of hospitals cutting RN positions, often replacing them with other health-care professionals amid provincial underfunding. This can put patients at risk, as different roles do not have the same education, training and skill to respond to unstable patients.

Ontario Nurses’ Association Members Demand Care, Not Cuts from Queensway Carleton Hospital, Join OPSEU, CUPE to Protest Staffing Cuts

NEPEAN, ON, August 19, 2026 – Registered nurses (RNs), members of the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) joined other health-care workers from the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) and Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) today at a rally to protest large staffing cuts at Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH). These cuts and model of care changes are happening across the province as health-care employers are trying to eliminate budget deficits in the face of government underfunding. QCH has cut 87 RNs for a total of 119 staff cuts in total; since January 2025, ONA has been informed of more than 1,420 positions that have been impacted province-wide.

BRANTFORD, ON, July 29, 2026 – Today, nurses at Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) delivered a banner to two of the hospital’s senior executive for Chief Executive Officer, Bonnie Camm, calling on the CEO to reverse 21 registered nurse (RN) position cuts and to maintain RN-only levels of care in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) and Medication Clinic (MC). The banner, which was signed by 89 per cent of nurses in the CCU, MC, Emergency Department (ED), Mental Health ED and Post-Anesthesia Acute Care Unit (PACU), emphasizes grave concerns about patient care and unsafe working conditions.
